StarragHeckert AG, Switzerland, has purchased 100% of the shares of Dörries Scharmann Technologie GmbH, Mönchengladbach, from A-Tec Group, Vienna.

The listed Swiss machine tool company is an excellent buyer for DST serving the same target markets with complementary products. The profitable Dörries Scharmann is a manufacturer of machine tools of the renowned brands Dörries, Droop+Rein, Ecospeed, Scharmann and Berthiez for drilling, turning, milling and grinding of medium and large workpieces and is among the technology leaders in the industry.

The group with 790 employees generated sales of around €130m in 2010. The industrial logic for the merger is evident: Identical target markets, complementary product ranges and both companies are focusing on the upper quality segment. Main customers are large multi-nationals in the aerospace, power generation, transportation and precision machinery businesses.

For the profitable DST a quick solution had to be found as DST’s parent group A-Tec Industries went into reorganization proceedings by the end of 2010. The acquisition by StarragHeckert was implemented in the shortest time possible. The purchase price amounts to EUR 70 million and is financed by own funds and through a bridge loan from the majority shareholder of StarragHeckert, Mr Walter Fust.

Livingstone, whose managing partners have already been involved in the preceding sale of Dörries Scharmann to A-Tec Group on behalf of DST’s former majority shareholder Deutsche Beteiligungs AG in 2007 were involved in the transaction advisory.
