Amber Travel Partnership, a group of three successful
Yorkshire-based travel specialists, has been acquired by Primary
Capital in a deal jointly initiated with James Lever of
Livingstone’s Leisure team.

The management of the company has been augmented with the
appointment of Steve Kimber as new Chief Executive and David Gaster
as Commercial Director. Both have spent many years in the travel
industry, most recently working with short breaks specialist Cresta
Holidays. The existing management team will remain in place and Rob
Foreman of Primary Capital has joined the board as a non-executive

Amber commenced trading in January 2004 and is made up of Great
Rail Journeys (“GRJ”), Inntravel and Filoxenia, with
each company having a distinct focus and identity. The companies
are leaders within their niches and each have the potential to
widen their product offering even further. GRJ offers escorted
train journeys through spectacular scenery in some of the world’s
most fascinating territories including Australia, Japan and Peru.
Filoxenia is a leading specialist in holidays to quiet, little
known corners of Greece and Inntravel features a unique range of
independent, ‘gentle activity’ holidays throughout the

James Lever, partner at Livingstone, comments, “The Amber
Travel deal is a classic example of deal origination at its purest
and most effective. Through our Leisure team’s work, we were
aware of both Primary’s serious interest in doing deals in
the sector and a number of attractive potential targets. It was a
simple matter of bringing the two parties together, creating a
constructive environment of trust and respect and overseeing an
efficient process”.

Rob Foreman of Primary adds “We are delighted to have worked
on this deal with Livingstone, who proved to be the right team to
open the door for us with the vendors where others had failed. We
hope to repeat the successful partnership in completing further
deals originated with James and the Livingstone team”.

Andrew Foster of Lloyd TSB Acquisition finance, who supported the
transaction with a mix of Senior and Mezzanine funding, commented
“We were delighted to assist Primary, Steve and David in
acquiring our valued and long standing client. This is our largest
originated deal in the North”.
