Livingstone Helps Bring UK Touch to the Chicago Music Stage:
October 2007
The Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) will open its 2007-2008 Season on Sunday, October 28. The special Opening Night concert will be marked by the presence on the podium of internationally acclaimed conductor Sir Andrew Davis, Music Director and Principal Conductor of Lyric Opera of Chicago.
"Livingstone is pleased to support the arts in the community and especially proud to help stage such an exciting team of international talent at the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra", said Livingstone managing partner Daivd Sulaski. "We are looking forward to a fun and riveting Opening Night".
Sir Andrew Davis is one of the world's leading conductors and he is about to embark upon his eighth season as Music Director of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. His remarkably varied repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary, with world premieres of many symphonic and operatic works to his credit. He is a notable interpretator of much twentieth century music, including Janacek, Messiaen, Boulez, Elgar, Tippett and Britten. He tours extensively, has made many acclaimed recordings and regularly guest conducts leading European and North American orchestras.
As the major piece for this concert, Maestro Davis has chosen the Third Symphony by Robert Schumann, who called this his "Rhenish" because it was intended to convey a picture of country life along the banks of the Rhine River. Maestro Davis will also collaborate with a stunning new voice on the contemporary scene, cellist Daniel Mueller-Schott, in the Shostakovich Cello Concerto #1. Mr. Mueller-Schott is a native of Munich and is in great demand internationally.
This year the CPO celebrates its seventeenth season as a major force in the musical arena of Chicago's Metropolitan Area. Most of its players are drawn from the Lyric Opera Orchestra and the balance from a talented pool of independent Chicago musicians.
Tickets are still available for the October 28 concert, to be held at Pick Staiger Concert Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets are $70 on the main floor and range between $35 and $60 in the balcony. Parking at Pick Staiger Concert Hall is free. Tickets are available by calling The Chicago Philharmonic at +001312 847-866-6888.
