With the acquisition of UNION Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH Chemnitz, HerkulesGroup has materia-lized their long-term strategy for expanding the product range.
UNION, a worldwide leading manufacturer of horizontal boring and milling machines, employs 170 people. Being one of the largest employers in the Chemnitz region, it is also one of the oldest ma-chine tool manufacturers in Germany. The highly precise large horizontal boring machines produced by UNION perfectly complement the HerkulesGroup's existing product portfolio. To a large extent, these machine tools share the same customers and fields of application as the milling machines manu-factured by WaldrichSiegen.

The strong presence of the HerkulesGroup companies in all major and emerging markets offers further strategic benefits. “In the future, UNION will be able to make use of our sales structures. At the same time, our real net output ratio together with increased production capacities will pro-vide benefits in terms of procurement. Overall, excellent growth prospects open up for all companies belonging to the HerkulesGroup” he adds.
At production facilities in Germany, USA, China, and India, the HerkulesGroup companies manufac-ture heavy-duty machine tools for grinding, turning, texturing and milling applications. After the ac-quisition of UNION, the HerkulesGroup employs more than 1.800 people worldwide.
The transaction was finalized on June 21, 2011. Vendors are nimbus hands-on investors, a Dutch financial investor focusing on medium-sized industrial companies, and the management of UNION. The parties agreed not to disclose the terms of the transaction.
Livingstone Partners initiated the transaction and advised the acquirer WaldrichSiegen Holding GmbH, a HerkulesGroup company.
